The Shed That Went Viral

Every now and then, a project comes along that makes people stop scrolling.

This was one of them.

What started as a custom-designed grain storage shed in Richmond, QLD quickly took off on Facebook, reaching over 1 million impressions and getting plenty of attention from farmers and operators across the country.

And when you see it, you understand why.

At 261 metres long, this shed stretches out across the landscape in a way that’s hard to ignore. It’s not just big, it’s the largest shed we’ve ever designed at Now Buildings.

The brief was simple. The client needed serious grain storage capacity. Not something standard. Not something that would just get by. Something that was designed properly for the job.

So that’s what we set out to do.

See the Shed for Yourself

Sometimes videos explain it better than words.

The finished shed comes in at 20 metres wide, 261 metres long and 7.4 metres high, with a total of 5,220 square metres of floor space. It’s hard to picture that kind of size, but to give it some context, you could fit around 520 Toyota LandCruisers inside, parked side by side.

There’s a fair bit that goes into a build like this too.

We’re talking over 12.1 kilometres of sheeting and 84,911 screws, all delivered to site across multiple truckloads. When you’re working at this scale, everything matters. Planning, logistics, engineering. It all has to line up.

But what really got people talking wasn’t just the size.

It was what the shed represents.

If you’re running a farm or a large operation, you know how quickly you can run out of space. And when that happens, “just enough” doesn’t cut it. You need something that actually works long term. That’s what people connected with when they saw this build. It’s practical, it’s purpose-built, and it’s designed to handle real workloads.

Like all Now Buildings sheds, this one was designed specifically for the site and built using 100% Australian made steel, with heavy-duty connections and engineering suited to Australian conditions.

Although it was designed for grain storage, it’s already showing how versatile a shed like this can be. At the moment it’s housing trucks, machinery, vehicles and even light aircraft. When the design is right from the start, you’re not boxed into one use.

Projects like this don’t come along often.

They start with a clear need and end up showing just how far you can go when you build something properly.

If anything, this shed is a good reminder of what’s possible when you stop trying to make do and design something that actually fits your operation.

If you’re thinking about your next shed, or you’ve outgrown what you’ve got, it might be time to look at something bigger
